About Hip and Knee Pain

Hip pain can come from the hip joint, the tendons on the outside of the hip, or the lower back. Knee pain is often linked to load, strength and how the hip and foot are working.

Common causes include osteoarthritis, tendon problems, and sport or running overload.

Common signs

  • Pain in the groin, outside of the hip or buttock
  • Pain getting up from a chair or climbing stairs
  • Knee pain with running, squatting or stairs
  • Stiff hips limiting your golf swing or walking

How We Can Help

We check the hip, knee and lower back, and test your strength and movement to find the source.

Care centres on chiropractic adjustments to the hip, knee, pelvis and lower back where appropriate, combined with strengthening and graded activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can hip pain come from my back?

Yes. Pain felt in the buttock or hip can come from the lower back. Part of our assessment is working out which it is.

Should I stop running?

Not necessarily. Adjusting your load is usually better than stopping completely. We will help you plan a sensible return.
